Here are step-by-step instructions on how to sell your items:
Step 1: Register for the sale
- Anyone can sell items at our Consignment Sale. You don't need to be a LexFUN! Member, or even a Lexington resident.
- Just visit this website to register www.myconsignmentmanager.com/lexfun
- After you register, you’ll get an email with our 2013 Pricing Guidelines and step-by-step instructions on how to create your barcode price tags.
- By registering for a consignor number you are agreeing to our Terms of Consignment
Step 2: Gather up your items
- What can you sell? LexFUN! has developed a reputation for having high quality, gently used merchandise so there are some restrictions on what you can sell. You can sell gently used children’s clothes (newborn to size 8), outwear, shoes, Halloween costumes, toys, games, movies books, strollers, car seats, high chairs, cribs (not drop-side), swings, bouncy seats, baby gear and equipment, bikes and wagons, monitors, baby carriers, pack-n-plays, and baby and children’s furniture. No clothes with stains, tears, missing buttons or broken zippers. No stuffed animals, violent toys (such as guns or weapons). No car seats older than 5 years old (by law, we can’t sell them), under garments, or used bottles, pacifiers, teethers or sippy cups. Please don't be offended if we return items to you during drop off or remove items from the sale that are found to be damaged.
- Prepare your items. Spending a little extra time getting your items ready will make a HUGE difference on your profits. Clothes that are clean, pressed, and smell fresh, with buttons and zippers closed, look better and generally sell first. Sets tend to sell better than separate items. So match up separates if you can. Starch, a little bleach, an iron, or a needle and thread work wonders! The same applies to furniture, large toys and outdoor play equipment. Remove all dirt, grime and marks. Make sure all parts are included; place any small parts in zip-lock bags, then securely attach the bag to the main part.
- Clothes – Pants, jeans, overalls and shorts should be folded and price tags attached with a safety pin in upper-right side. All other clothes should be put on wire hangers, if possible (wire hangers take up less room on the racks than plastic hangers). Hangers should be positioned so that the top of the hanger forms a question mark when looking at the front of the garment. Price tags should be attached with a safety pin in upper-right corner (when looking at front of garment)
- Onesies – Hang your onesies. Do not bag them. We highly recommend hanging multiple onesies on one hanger and selling them together. Attach the price tag to the upper-right corner.
- Shoes – Only sell shoes that are like new, with little wear and tear. Clean them thoroughly. Tie shoes together or place them in a clear plastic ziplock bag and attach your price tag with clear packing tape (Scotch tape and masking tape tend not to hold so well). If you use tape, please don’t put tape over the barcode. Our scanners can’t read through tape, so we’ll have to manually enter all the barcode numbers.
- Books – Attach your price tag to back of the book with clear packing tape (which holds better than scotch tape or masking tape).
- Toys and Equipment – Put working batteries in all toys – children will try out the toys and they will sell quickly. Attach your price tag to toys and equipment with clear packing tape (which holds better than scotch tape or masking tape). Make sure all the parts are included; place any small parts in zip-lock bags, then securely attach the bag to the main part. If possible, include instruction manuals (download from Internet).
Step 3: Enter items and create your barcode price tags
- Pricing Guidelines: Click here for our suggestion on how to price things
- Enter items and print off barcode price tags - Click here for step-by-step directions on how to enter your items and create your own barcode price tags
- Tagging Deadline is midnight on May 11th
Step 4: Drop off your items
- Dates and Times – Drop off dates and times are:
- Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, May 17, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p. m.
- Drop off will take about 10-15 minutes. Sellers will be asked to place their items directly onto the selling floor. If you separate your clothes by size before you come, this will go quickly.
- Location – All items should be dropped off at St. Brigid’s Parish at 2001 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA 02421.
- Bring a SASE – You need to bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope (A10 size) when you drop off your items. Put your consigner number in the return address area. We will mail your check to you in this envelope.
- Hangers – All clothes (except pants, jeans, overalls and shorts) should be on wire hangers before dropping off. Pants, jeans, overalls and shorts should be folded.
- Batteries – Toys and equipment with batteries sell first. Shoppers like to try before they buy!
- Test your items – Clean and test toys and equipment before dropping off
- Barcode price tags – All items must have your bar-coded price tag securely attached BEFORE you arrive. No handwritten price tags can be accepted.
- Sorting – All clothing needs to be sorted by size and gender when you arrive at drop off. Helpful tip – Put a rubber band around the hangers for items that are all the same size and gender. For example, group all girls' size 6 months and all boys' size 6 months separately.
- Assembly – Assemble items such as swings and highchairs to avoid losing pieces and parts. Larger furniture such as cribs should not be assembled but they must be accompanied by any necessary hardware.
- Recalls – Be aware of recent recalls (visit http://www.cpsc.gov for the most current list)
We have developed a reputation of having high quality merchandise so we have certain restrictions on the items we will accept. Please don't be offended if we return items to you during your drop off appointment or remove items from the sale that are found to be damaged. Items may be removed for any of the following reasons: car seat more than 5 years old, stains, tears, missing buttons, non-functional zippers, or missing parts.
Step 5: Get Paid
- A check will be mailed to each consignor several weeks after the sale with individual proceeds. Consignors will receive 50% of the proceeds from their items that sell. LexFUN!’s portion of the proceeds will go to its Preschool Scholarship and Community Fund.
- At the end of the sale, all unsold items will be donated to charity and will not be returned to individual sellers.
- You must bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope (A10 size) when you drop off your items. Put your consigner number in the return address area. We will mail your check to you in this envelope.
SALE FLYER: Consignors, please help us spread the word about our sale! Print this flyer and hand out to your friends and fellow moms. Take them to your pre-school, PTA meetings, playdates, parties, etc. Remember, as a seller, the more people you let know about the sale the more of YOUR items will sell. Please feel free to distribute them wherever you think parents would see them. Make sure that you ask permission first.
Volunteer for the SALE
WHY VOLUNTEER?
- By volunteering for just a few hours, you will be eligible to pre-shop the Sale at our Special Private Presale on the evening of Friday, May 17th. This means you get to shop the Sale before the general public and get the best selection!
- You don't have to sell with us to volunteer at our sale. Anyone can volunteer – moms, dads, grandparents, and friends.
WHAT’S INVOLVED IN VOLUNTEERING?
- Volunteers work one or more two-hour shifts during the Sale. A variety of time shifts are available.
- Volunteers help us set up clothing racks, displays, and tables; receive items at drop offs; arrange products on the sales floor; sort clothing; put up signs; direct and assist buyers during the sale; cashier; bag items; take down fixtures. You will also get to meet other moms in town and have fun.
SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER
- If you have already registered as a consignor (seller), go to our website at www.myconsignmentmanager.com/lexfun and login with your user id and password.
- If you are not registered as a seller, go to our website at www.myconsignmentmanager.com/lexfun and create a user account and then register as a “volunteer.”
- You will be prompted to select a shift during the Sale.
- If all volunteer spots have been filled, please e-mail lexfunconsignmentsale@gmail.com and we will place you on an on-call volunteer list. If you can't work the day of the sale, we have a number of things you can do in the weeks before the sale that will still entitle you to pre-shop on Friday evening, like dropping off lawn signs, posting flyers, etc.
